As the title suggests, we were one day away from leaving Austin. Boo.
Determined to buy boots, Maim and I headed out to Brazos, in a part of town that we'd not been to yet. The trip was a success with Maim picking up a pair of hot black cherry boots. We then caught the train back to East Austin where we had lunch at the yellow jacket Social Club and then headed back to the homestead to pack our things in preparation for an early departure te next day.
It was then back to South Congress to browse through a couple of shops and then meet up with Dr. Rage to see the famous bats. Or so we thought. We waited two hours and alas, no bats. A few scouts appeared to suss out the situation but I think the bats were a no show. And we were now an hour late for our own farewell drinks.
So we hustled on down to the Casino El Camino where Bloody Mary, Dilla, Lucille Brawl and Smarty Pants were waiting for us. Jinkies. During the evening, we were joined by Radio Active, Maso Kiss, Killer Cruton (who shall now be known as Fruitcup), Ivy (?), Chip Queso and Vicious Van Go-Go. It was our first time seeing Vicious as she wasn't at the bout on Saturday night. Dr. Rage experienced a clothing coinky dink with both Bloody and Vicious. I hope I used that term correctly.
Historical note: Smarty informed us that the Casino El Camino is where the first start up meeting for roller derby was held and that it used to also be the hang out for the TXRG Putas del Fuegos.
We then said our farewells and headed home after an all round amazing trip to Austin.
