Our final bout of the tournament was against Silicon Valley Roller Girls, hailing from California. We were playing off for 5th, in the 5th year of the Dust Devil Tournament in VRDL's 5th year of existence. Coincidence? Of course, but very fitting.
Again, sorry for the lack of details but we took out the win, 239 to 104. Not bad for the 10th seed of the tournament. Our placing also stirred up a lot of discussion about our ranking in the West Region (and the world) but I think we'll let other people sort that out. FIFTH PLACE!!!
It was finally time to relax and so we grabbed a spot in the bleachers and watched Arizona defeat Tucson in the consolation final to take out 3rd place. Then Rocky Mountain defeated Our new BFFs, Angel City, for the championship title. Big shout out to Triple Shot Misto, I hope your ankle is ok.
What happens at the after party stays at the after party. Either we took too long getting ready or a lot of teams had to head home immediately but the party was dominated by VRDL, Rage City (Anchorage) and Pacific Roller Derby (Hawaii).
Hot tip: if you ever find yourself in a room with G-Banger, Swish and a karaoke machine, DO NOT GO HOME EARLY.
Sunday highlights: photo with Uber Alice and a unicorn; Hockey Honey skating an entire jam backwards - she skates backwards better than I can walk forwards; Joy Collision; watching Brother Grim jam reffing Atomatrix; meeting Helen Wheels; group hug with Hurt Reynolds; and the VRDL - Angel City Lovefest.
Oh, and VRDL All Stars - you are the absolute highlight of my life.
